Roman Anthony Parents Celebrate Son’s First MLB Hit at Fenway Park
June 10, 2025 — Boston Roman Anthony’s parents, Lori and Tony Anthony, along with about 10 family members and friends, watched from the owner’s box at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox top prospect recorded his first career MLB hit, a two-run double against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Roman Anthony parents had flown in from Florida after missing his debut the previous day due to short notice on his call-up from Triple-A Worcester. Seated near manager Alex Cora, the group included Anthony’s brother, sister Lia, grandparents, uncle, agents and friends. Roman Anthony noticed them during his first at-bat.
“I didn’t even notice they were there until I went up for my first at-bat. Nobody really gave me the heads-up that they were gonna be that close. That group out there has been with me every step of the way… To have them here was special for sure,” Anthony said.
He noted his mother’s emotional response, adding, “She gets emotional, for sure. It’s just awesome to have them here…”
Family Reactions and Viral Fame
NESN cameras captured the Roman Anthony parents cheering wildly, with Lori crying during the milestone. The moment, highlighted by the family’s Italian heritage and unique naming tradition—father Tony (Anthony Anthony), brother Anthony Anthony Jr., and uncle Anthony—went viral on social media, as covered by We The Italians.
Anthony’s sister Lia, 22 and in medical school at Florida State University following her mother’s path as a physician’s assistant, spoke to WEEI about the family’s surprise at the attention.
“I think he definitely was shocked. We all were… My mom especially was so touched by it,” Lia said, recalling David Ortiz’s words to their mother.
Teammate Garrett Whitlock praised the Roman Anthony parents: “It’s been really impressive seeing how respectful he is… They did a fantastic job.”
Manager Alex Cora noted the organization’s support for families during debuts.
Parents’ Sacrifices and Gratitude
During Players’ Weekend in August 2025, Anthony expressed appreciation for his Roman Anthony parents.
“Amazing… I wouldn’t be here if not for every little sacrifice they made… Ever since I was a little boy… she was the one that was pushing me. ‘Hey, keep dreaming. Keep going. Nothing’s impossible,'” he said of Lori.
Tony, a financial advisor, relocated with Roman to Florida for high school baseball at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Lori started a medical supplies business after working as a physician’s assistant. The Roman Anthony parents, with no sports background, supported all siblings in multiple sports for over two decades.
Anthony planned to give the hit ball to his parents post-game, underscoring their close bond amid his rapid rise as the Red Sox’s top prospect.
